Our Giving Trees is an organization dedicated to serving two causes at once. Our GIving Trees wish to help the environment by selling you flowers and trees, we donate the profits we make to the National Immigration Law Center.
"I began this organization in order to promote and help two important subjects for me, immigration and the environment. My parents are both immigrants and know the experiences they go through, I want to help make the transition as easy as possible for the many immigrants coming to the United States while also helping the environment at the same time." - Emma Murphy
Emma is a senior at Wolcott College Prepatory
Kurt Johnson currently works in venture capital, having founded 11.2 Ventures. 11.2 Ventures works in multiple industries but is actively weaving in sustainability into all of the companies it creates. The concept of sustainability is central to Kurt’s life and life goals.
Born in Mumbai, India, he witnessed how perception shaped how we treat each other, as he, through his grandmother’s leprosy rehabilitation organization dispensed aid and also taught the broader community that leprosy was curable.
Growing up in Evanston, working for his father’s tree care business, he gained his passion for trees, and an understanding of how sustainable living impacts the urban, suburban and rural ecosystems. His love for flora makes him a passionate supporter of Our Giving Trees.
"For me, Our Giving Trees represents the ideal weave of social justice, advocacy and a student-led initiative designed to address issues of immigration, human rights, climate change and youth empowerment.
I'm very pleased to participate in and support the vision and mission of Our Giving Trees -- and would encourage others to join the momentum launched by its founder, Emma Murphy."
